What you didn't know your states did

Did you know that since 1994 - your state has been participating in egg decorating in order to display the egg at the White House over Easter to represent each state?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/easter/2008/eggsbystate/ For other years - just do an internet Search for White House State Eggs and the year.

Some states do contests - and some actually hire outside artists. Craziness.

Just curious about where you got the info that some states hire someone to do the eggs? I have twice participated in the event with hand-painted Easter eggs, and attended the event in Washington DC. where I met many of the egg artists from around the country. I've never heard that anyone was hired to do this before!

I was going from a few references I found on other blogs that I found - they may have been in reference to this article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/05/AR2007040501259.html .
Actually, from the article - it Seems that the American Egg Boards is principly in charge of of finding the egg artists and that they can appeal to the state govenor for help. I had though that just the state was responsible for it because I first found out about the display by discovering a contest that Texas sponsored in order to find an egg.
